While You're Here
A wellness practice built on one leap of faith
Founder Sharon Vendle left a stable corporate career to go back to school for her massage and esthetician licenses, and has spent the years since building Serenity into San Francisco’s award-winning wellness destination — known especially for manual lymphatic drainage, therapeutic bodywork, and post-surgical recovery care.
The approach is holistic: mind, body, and spirit, treated together. Therapists and estheticians work alongside referrals to naturopathic doctors, acupuncturists, and chiropractors, using organic and natural products sourced from around the world.
Signature Treatment
Swedish massage, done the classic way
Long, gliding strokes follow the direction of blood flow toward the heart. Pressure stays light to medium — this is the massage built for relaxation, not deep muscle work. If you need firmer pressure, ask about our deep tissue or sports massage instead.
- Relaxes tight muscles, increases circulation, and releases fascia throughout the body.
- Stimulates the lymphatic system to support detoxification and immune function.
- Leaves you with an overall sense of calm — the kind that reduces stress and clears your mind for days after.
Add hot stones, aromatherapy, or a CBD oil blend to any Swedish massage — ask your therapist when you book.
The Neighborhood
Why it's called Cow Hollow
Serenity sits on Union Street, the commercial spine of a neighborhood with more history than its boutiques let on. A few things worth knowing before — or after — your massage.
1860s–70s
Cow Hollow earns its name honestly: the valley between Pacific Heights and the Presidio was home to more than 30 dairies and roughly 800 grazing cattle, drawn by natural springs in the low ground.
1906
The great earthquake and fire levels much of San Francisco — but spares Cow Hollow. It’s why the neighborhood still has buildings dating to nearly every decade since the 1860s.
Today
The old dairy road is now Union Street: boutiques, cafés, and bistros inside restored Victorians, a short walk from Serenity’s front door.
A short stroll to the Presidio and Crissy Field
The Ecology Trail and Lovers’ Lane wind through the Presidio just up the hill, and Crissy Field’s flat, open shoreline frames the Golden Gate Bridge — both easy bookends to a massage appointment.
Quiet enough for celebrities to disappear into
The neighborhood’s Sherman House once hosted opera stars, and guests like Johnny Carson and Barbra Streisand came here precisely because Cow Hollow let them keep a low profile.
Green Street’s architecture tour
One tree-lined block of Green Street shows off nearly every residential style built in San Francisco since the 1860s — a nice pre-appointment walk if you arrive early.
